OPPENHEIM, SALLY
OPPENHEIM, SALLY, Baroness Oppenheim-Barnes (née Viner; 1928– ), British politician. Born in Dublin and educated in Sheffield, where her father was a diamond cutter, Sally Oppenheim worked as a social worker in London before serving as a Conservative member of Parliament from 1970 to 1987, and was minister of state for trade and consumer affairs under Margaret Thatcher in 1979–82. She was chairman of the Conservative Party in 1973–74 and served as chairman of the National Consumer Council. She was made a life peeress in 1989. (William D. Rubinstein (2nd ed.)
